Movement Standards
  • Dead Lift: This is a traditional dead lift with the hands outside the knees. Sumo dead lifts are not allowed. Starting on the ground, the barbells is lifted until hips and knees reach full extension with shoulders behind the bar. The arms must be straight throughout. Deliberate bouncing of the barbell is not allowed. Dropping the barbell after completion of the rep is permitted.

  • Burpee Box Jump Over: The movement begins standing tall and initiating the burpee with chest and thighs touching the ground on one side of the box (with no body parts spilling into other lanes). Next, the athlete comes to standing and initiates the box jump over with a two foot takeoff on the near side of the box. The athlete may jump directly over the box or tap both feet on top before moving to the other side. The rep is counted good when two feet land on the far side of the box. Hands or body parts other than the feet may not touch the box at anytime for the rep to count. If jumping completely over the box, the entire body was be truly over the box, with no body parts going around the box during the jump. Athletes may step down from the box. Beginner athletes may step up and over the box after completing the burpee portion but must adhere to all other movement standards.

  • Pull-up: This is a standard pull-up. At the bottom, the arms must be fully extended. At the top, the chin must break the horizontal plane of the bar. Any style of pull-up is permitted, as long as all the requirements are met. During a Chest-to-Bar Pull-up, at the top, the chest (any point below the clavicle) must clearly come into contact with the bar.

  • Hanging Knee Raises: Athletes start with hands on the bar, arms fully extended (dead hang position) and finish with their knees above the height of their hips. The arms and hips must be fully extended at the bottom, and the feet must be brought back under the hips before beginning the next rep.

  • Shoulder-to-Overhead: Each rep begins with the barbell on the shoulders in the front rack. The rep finishes with the weight fully locked out overhead centered over the middle of the body. A shoulder press, push press, push jerk or split jerk may be used, as long as the elbow, shoulder, hips and knees are fully extended, and the bar finishes directly over the body with the feet in line. The bar will begin on the ground and there will be no racks. Back racked shoulder-to-overhead is not allowed.

  • Thruster: This is a standard barbell thruster in which the barbell moves from the bottom of a squat with the barbell in the front rack position to full lockout overhead. The hip crease must pass below the top of the knee during the squat. A squat clean into the thruster is allowed if the bar is on the ground. At the top, the barbell must be over the center of the body with the hips, knees and arms fully extended. Athletes may pass the barbell to teammates if they wish.
  • Burpee Bar Muscle-Up: The movement begins standing tall and initiating the burpee with chest and thighs touching the ground. Next, the athlete comes to standing and initiates the bar muscle-up movement by hanging from the bar with fully extended arms at the bottom.  At the top, the arms must finish fully extended above the bar. The bar muscle-up must be one continuous movement with no resting of hands on the pull-up bar at any point.
